We’re thrilled to announce that All On The Line has brought on state directors in five critical places nationwide: North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin. Each state has seen the effects that gerrymandering can have—and over the next two years, will be crucial to our fight for fair districts.

That’s where these talented, experienced state directors come in. They’ll bring experience, know-how, and passion to this project—leading the grassroots efforts in each state and helping to end gerrymandering once and for all.

In their own words, here’s why each state director is fired up to be a part of this team. We hope you’ll join us, too.

Lekha Shupeck, North Carolina State Director

I grew up in small-town North Carolina — and like many of you, I was shocked to see the forward-thinking, innovative state I knew turn into one of the least democratic states in the country after 2010. From the passage of HB2 — “the transgender bathroom bill” — to restrictions around Confederate statues to limiting reproductive rights, most of the backwards-looking, hurtful policies we’ve seen here are a direct result of the gerrymandering that keeps people in power who don’t represent the true values of North Carolina.

Katy Shanahan, Ohio State Director

I’m from Columbus and have worked in state and local politics for over a decade because, like many of you, I believe deeply in the democratic process and in the power of our vote. But in the last 10 years, I’ve watched the power of our vote be diluted by politicians in our state. And I’ve been frustrated by their harmful attacks on some of the most important issues, like protecting reproductive rights, taking action on climate change with clean energy standards, and fixing our broken and unconstitutional school-funding system that leaves poor urban and rural school districts behind. That’s why I’m so excited to work with all of you to take on the fight for fair maps and voting rights in Ohio.

Mikhel Harrison, Pennsylvania State Director

As a native Philadelphian and the son of two Philly cops, I’ve seen the harmful impacts of gerrymandering up close. From gun violence to blatant educational disparities seen in rural and urban communities alike, I know that gerrymandering is at the root of so many issues, and that is why I’m so excited to take on the challenge of ending the practice of politicians manipulating our state’s legislative maps.

Gen Van Cleve, Texas State Director

Since 2008, I have helped recruit, train and elect progressive women from every corner of the state to the Texas Legislature. In fact, if you’ve ever attended an Annie’s List training, traveled to the Capitol for Blue Ribbon Lobby Day, attended the 2013 People’s Filibuster, or visited the Ladies Room Caucus at the state convention, I bet we’ve met!

I am very concerned about the fundamentals of our democracy — voting rights, the census, and redistricting. Texas always seems to lead, but not in ways that acknowledge the talent, diversity, and richness of all our families, neighbors, and communities.

Liz Treviño, Wisconsin State Director

I grew up in Northeastern Wisconsin and began working in Wisconsin politics as an organizer in 2010. Since then, we have watched Wisconsin and its progressive traditions be repeatedly undermined by gerrymandering. From Act 10 — and its attacks on working families — to the implementation of voter ID, and most recently the lame-duck session power grab, the Republican-controlled legislature has continued to ignore the wishes of constituents they claim to represent by pushing through legislation that does not reflect Wisconsin’s values.

We’re so excited to have these leaders on the All On The Line team. If you’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to get involved, this is it—sign up today and we’ll be in touch: https://allontheline.org/.
